How Can Entrepreneurs Nurture Their Mindset and Behavior?

Earl Foote, CEO of Nexus IT, has a different take on what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. He believes that having an intentional mindset and positive energy are the keys to making it as a newcomer in a tough business market.

What Does it Mean to Nurture Your Mindset?

Your mindset is a huge factor in how you cope with challenges. In general, a growth mindset leads to increased effort. Resilience and perseverance in the face of setbacks often lead to ultimate success.

Earle believes that the success he achieves is only limited by the effort he is willing to give a project. To nurture your mindset, it’s important to take quiet time out each day to examine the choices and decisions you are about to make — or to re-evaluate the mistakes that you made.

What Is the Law of Attraction?

The law of attraction is the belief that negative or positive thoughts can bring the expected results into your life. Proponents of the viewpoint believe people and thoughts are made of pure energy. Like energy attracts like energy. Under this theory, a person can affect their wealth, health and personal relationships by generating good energy.

To practice the law of attraction, do away with all negativity in your life. This includes negative thoughts, situations, and people. There’s no shame in asking for help. So, if you need counseling, get the help you need to move forward in your life.

Once you’re free of the weight of all that negative energy, you may find success suddenly feels attainable.

What Does Karma Have to Do With Running a Company?

Once you focus on something you want to achieve, you may find that the resources you need begin to align for you. Earl believes in karma — what you put out in the universe comes back to you. That’s why he tries to project mindfulness and focus on abundance for himself, his team, his clients and the larger community.

Most entrepreneurs fail a few times before finding a unique idea that leads to their first successful business. What makes them different is what they tell themselves afterward, “Don’t give up. What can I learn from the experience? I’ll do better next time.”

Mindfulness isn’t a new idea. Buddhist monks have observed this tradition for centuries. It’s based on achieving a relaxed state that helps you stay in the moment and think productively about a situation. Mindfulness can be applied to every situation of your life. It boosts morale, productivity and can even stave off depression. A business with a culture of positive thinking retains great employees and inspires them to go above and beyond.

Positivity leaves you energized, whereas negativity is draining. So, it helps you see opportunities that others might miss. Setbacks and failures are as inevitable as a rainy day. As long as you stay focused on the moment and make the best decisions you can, success is sure to follow.

How Can You Get Feedback Related to Your Business?

Earl Foote constantly seeks feedback from his peers and other resources. He recommends the following tools to other entrepreneurs:

  • books
  • peer groups
  • mastermind groups

The type of books that speak to you may differ from culture to culture and across industries. However, look beyond your comfort zone and maybe ask for recommendations from a mentor.

A mastermind group is a concept in peer mentoring where participants help each other solve their problems with advice and input. Mastermind and peer groups help you think outside the box and get a new perspective on what’s broken with your ideas and strategies. It’s difficult to achieve innovation if you stay inside your own head all the time.

Peer groups have the following advantage:

  • They teach you the importance of scaling. One of the toughest parts of running a business is scaling up production when demand for products and services begins to grow.
  • They help you recognize your blind spots. Your blind spot might be an idea you can’t let go of, an employee you can’t fire, or a solution that’s in front of you but somehow out of reach.
  • They give you accountability. An honest panel of peers isn’t afraid to let you know when you’ve gone off the reservation or haven’t stayed on course.
  • They lend personal support. Sometimes, you just need a confidence boost or confirmation that you can achieve your goals.
